Spring Open House

Tuskegee will hold its Spring Open House for prospective students on March 27. Information regarding registering for Open House can be found at Tuskegee University's web site. However, the Birmingham Area Tuskegee Alumni Association has cancelled its planned bus trip to this event.

Christmas Social

The alumni association's Christmas party was held on Friday, December 11, at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Fairfield. See photos of the Christmas social.

Grace House Gift Wrap

Tuskegee alumni participated in the annual Grace House gift wrap project at the Riverchase Galleria. See photos of alumni who participated.

Alumni Volunteer at Firehouse Shelter

Birmingham Tuskegee Alumni Tuskegee University alumni partnered with Jackson State University alumni on September 26 to serve approximately 160 individuals at the Firehouse Shelter in downtown Birmingham. Donated food was prepared by the alumni who participated in this community service activity. Birmingham Area Tuskegee Alumni Association members who participated included Karon Lewis, Bernice Jenkins, Jeremy York and Hiala Elridge.

Tuskegee Football

Tuskegee University kicks of the 2009 football season with its first game on August 23 against Benedict in Columbia, South Carolina. Tuskegee will play in several classic games this year with the first being the Labor Day Classic against Miles in Birmingham on September 6 at Legion Field. Kentucky State in the Gateway Classic in St. Louis on September 26 and against Alabama A&M University in the Circle City Classic in Indianapolis on October 3.

Tuskegee University held its Fall Open House for high school students on November 14, 2009. The Birmingham Area Tuskegee Alumni Association sponsored a bus trip for students to attend this event. See Photos of the event.

La' Rae Shante Walker, a Carver High School senior, has been selected to receive the 2009 scholarship awarded by the Birmingham Area Tuskegee Alumni Association. She is her school's senior class president, member of the English Honor Society, member of the National Honor Society and president of DECA. Ms. Walker is a recipient of the Ketterman Award, varsity basketball team co-captain and Beta Club member. She is an Alabama ambassador, SGA Activities Committee Chairman and is listed in Who's Who of High School Students. She is also a Red Cross blood drive participant and Jessie's Place volunteer.
